Red-Plated Government Car Allegedly Used at Jakarta Mall, LIN Questions Official Conduct

JAKARTA ■ STUPA NEWS — Indonesian public watchdog Lembaga Investigasi Negara (LIN) has questioned the use of government vehicles after a red-plated Toyota Innova believed to be registered in North Maluku was spotted at a shopping mall in Jakarta on Sunday.
The vehicle, bearing registration number DG 1260 WP, was seen parked at ITC Cempaka Mas while LIN Chairman Gus Robi Irawan Wiratmoko and LIN Jakarta Chairman Eddy Junaedi were attending a podcast recording at the shopping centre.
The sighting prompted LIN to question whether the vehicle was being used for official duties or personal purposes.
“Is it permissible to use a government car to go to a mall?” Gus Robi said, urging officials to use state-owned vehicles only for legitimate government business.
Eddy said the use of government facilities for personal purposes, if confirmed, would raise concerns over the proper use of public resources.
“If it is free, the fuel is ultimately paid for by the public,” he said.
LIN Calls for Clarification
LIN called on the relevant government institution and internal auditors to establish who was using the vehicle and why it was at the shopping centre.
“If you want to go to the mall, use a private car. Do not use public facilities for personal purposes,” Gus Robi said, adding that sanctions should be considered if an investigation confirms misuse.
The presence of a government vehicle at a shopping centre does not by itself establish a violation. It could have been used for an official assignment, and further clarification would be needed to determine whether its use breached government regulations.
LIN has not identified the person using the vehicle when it was spotted at the mall.
Vehicle Registered in North Maluku
The DG registration code is associated with North Maluku province.
The registration number alone, however, does not establish the identity of the vehicle's owner or user, or prove that it was being used for private purposes.
As of Sunday, there was no public statement from the government institution responsible for the vehicle explaining its presence at ITC Cempaka Mas.
LIN said it expected the relevant authorities to clarify the matter and review the vehicle's use if necessary. (
