Jakarta Official Praises Al-Azhar 19 Ciracas, Urges Students to Promote Waste Sorting

JAKARTA ■ STUPA NEWS — East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin praised SMA Islam Al-Azhar 19 Ciracas for its contribution to improving education quality and preparing students to compete for places at state universities.

Munjirin made the remarks while opening the sixth edition of Alspective, an annual student event organized by the school, in Ciracas, East Jakarta, on Friday.

Munjirin said he was impressed by the quality of the students and their academic performance. According to information provided by the school, a high proportion of its graduates continue their studies at state universities.

“I saw that the students are quite capable and the school is doing quite well. The students are intelligent,” Munjirin said.

Beyond academic achievement, Munjirin urged the school to support the East Jakarta administration's efforts to improve waste management, particularly by encouraging residents to sort waste at its source.

He said schools had an important role in shaping students' habits and encouraged them to bring waste-sorting practices from school into their homes.

“Students can not only sort waste at school, but also become ambassadors or advocates for waste sorting in their own homes,” Munjirin said.

He added that broader participation by families in waste sorting could help the government address waste-management challenges across East Jakarta.

SMA Islam Al-Azhar 19 Ciracas Principal Tati Ferawati said Alspective 6.0 was held not only as a student competition but also as a platform to develop creativity, sportsmanship, talent and confidence.

She said education should not focus exclusively on academic performance, but should also provide students with opportunities to develop skills and interests outside the classroom.

“Education should not be oriented only toward academics. It must provide greater space to develop students' creativity, sportsmanship, talents and abilities,” Tati said.

She said the event was intended to give students positive experiences and an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities beyond academic achievement.

Munjirin attended the event alongside several East Jakarta municipal officials, including Head of Public Welfare Affairs Yan Murdian, Head of General and Protocol Affairs Nina Permata, Ciracas District Head Panangaran Ritonga, Ciracas Deputy District Head Rahma Edwina, Ciracas Subdistrict Head Arifin and Kelapa Dua Wetan Subdistrict Head Priyati.
