PWI Jakarta Prepares Journalist Competency Test in October

STUPA NEWS — The Jakarta chapter of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI Jaya) is preparing to hold its 66th Journalist Competency Test (UKW) on Oct. 5-6, with the final schedule still subject to approval from the association's central leadership.
PWI Jaya Secretary and head of the organizing committee Arman Suparman said the proposal had been submitted to PWI Chairman Achmad Munir on Friday.
"The proposal has been submitted to the PWI chairman this morning. We are now waiting for approval and confirmation of the schedule," Arman said.
The previous test, held by PWI Jaya on May 25-26, was attended by 32 journalists across three competency levels: junior, intermediate and senior.
Participants came from the Greater Jakarta area as well as several regions outside Java.
PWI Jaya said all 32 participants in the previous test were declared competent.
Several journalists from outside Jakarta have also expressed interest in taking part in the upcoming test, PWI Jaya Chairman Kesit Budi Handoyo said, adding that two to three prospective participants had contacted the organization.
The deadline for submitting participant requirements is Sept. 22, 2026.
The competency test is part of efforts to strengthen journalists' professional standards and encourage adherence to Indonesia's Journalistic Code of Ethics. (Gusti Haes)
