LIN Prepares Legal Team Ahead of Aug. 27 Protest in Jakarta

JAKARTA, Aug. 26, 2026 — Lembaga Investigasi Negara (LIN), an Indonesian civil society organization, held a coordination meeting on Wednesday to discuss its position ahead of a planned public protest on Aug. 27 and prepare for several upcoming organizational events.

The meeting was led by LIN Chairman Gus Robi Irawan Wiratmoko and attended by representatives from the organization's regional branches in Banten, Jakarta and South Sulawesi, as well as LIN's legal aid bureau and lawyers.

Gus Robi said LIN would support the public's right to express its views while urging that any demonstration remain within the framework of Indonesian law and public order.

“LIN must serve as a balancing force. We will monitor public aspirations while ensuring they remain within the law,” Gus Robi said during the meeting.

Budi Aryanto, director of LIN's legal aid bureau, said lawyers had been assigned to monitor developments during the protest and provide legal assistance if needed.

“We have mapped out a team of lawyers to monitor the situation and provide legal assistance to members of the public or LIN members who require it,” Budi said.

The meeting also discussed preparations for the opening of LIN's headquarters, which is expected to serve as the organization's national coordination and administrative center.

LIN officials also discussed plans for the organization's ninth anniversary, which are expected to involve its regional and local branches.

Gus Robi urged the organization's regional branches to strengthen coordination, complete administrative and legal requirements and implement programs aimed at addressing issues affecting local communities.

He said LIN should respond to public issues quickly while maintaining a focus on legal procedures and public education.

“LIN is here to serve the country, not to create disorder. We monitor, safeguard and educate,” he said.

The coordination meeting comes a day before the planned Aug. 27 protest, as authorities and civil society groups prepare for the public demonstration in Jakarta. (Gusti)
