STUPA.sbs ■ A life jacket believed to have originated from the sunken motor sailing vessel KLM Nurul Salsa was found on the eastern coast of Matalang Island in Sabalana Village, Liukang Tangaya District, Pangkep Regency, South Sulawesi, on Saturday morning.
The life jacket was discovered by a local fisherman preparing to head out to sea. Residents recovered the item and reported the finding to Sabalana Village authorities and the local Village Consultative Body (BPD), which forwarded the information to the relevant authorities.
The KLM Nurul Salsa sank in waters west of Polassi Village, Bontosikuyu District, Selayar Islands Regency, on July 15, 2026.
The discovery adds to a growing number of items believed to have drifted from the vessel. Several other objects have previously been found in waters around the Selayar Islands and nearby areas influenced by ocean currents.
As of Saturday, authorities and search teams were continuing to document and verify all recovered items to determine whether they were linked to the sinking. Officials said the findings could assist ongoing search efforts and the identification of victims.(Rara)
