JAKARTA, STUPA — Matraman Subdistrict Head M. Husnul Fauji has called for stronger communication between local government officials and journalists to improve public access to information on government services and development programmes.
He made the remarks during a meeting with the East Jakarta chapter of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) at the Matraman Subdistrict Office on Thursday (Oct. 29).
Rudolf Simbolon, chairman of the East Jakarta PWI working group, said effective communication between the media and local authorities was important to ensure accurate reporting on public services, neighbourhood management and development initiatives.
"We want to build cooperation with the Matraman Subdistrict administration so that government programmes can be communicated accurately to the public," Rudolf said.
Husnul welcomed the initiative, saying his office was open to working with journalists to improve public access to information about local government activities and developments.
He also encouraged journalists to report on local issues, including environmental management and administrative services, while helping counter the spread of misinformation.
Husnul said cooperation between local authorities and the media should be based on continuous communication rather than ceremonial meetings.
The meeting also came as Husnul prepares to retire from civil service later this month. He urged the PWI working group to maintain its communication with the subdistrict administration after his departure.
He specifically mentioned Deputy Subdistrict Head Wahyu and Subdistrict Secretary Ericson Simanjuntak as officials who could continue the engagement.
"I hope our colleagues in the PWI working group will maintain communication and cooperation for the development of Matraman," Husnul said.
The meeting was attended by the deputy subdistrict head, the subdistrict secretary and members of the East Jakarta PWI working group. (Gusti Haes)
