JAKARTA, STUPA — Indonesian horror film Kuasa Gelap: Perjanjian Darah will open in cinemas across Indonesia on Oct. 8, 2026, with screenings available in standard theatres as well as premium formats including IMAX, 4DX and Magnify 8.
Produced by Paragon Pictures and Ideosource Entertainment, the film is a sequel directed by Rizal Mantovani. It expands on the exorcism theme of the first film, with the threat in the new story spreading beyond a single family to an entire city.
The story follows Daniel, a young man who must face the consequences of decisions made by his parents and grandmother. As the threat grows, he struggles to survive while confronting questions of faith and his family's past.
At the centre of the horror is Rephaim, an ancient entity said to be bound to the area where the characters live and demanding human lives as offerings.
Two exorcist priests from the previous film, Romo Rendra and Romo Thomas, return, played by Lukman Sardi and Jerome Kurnia. The sequel also explores Rendra's background in greater depth, including his personal struggles and doubts about his faith.
Lukman Sardi said the character's journey gave him an opportunity to reflect on the experience of dealing with doubt.
“The film takes audiences through Rendra's journey as he confronts his past while trying to save others,” Lukman said.
Writer and producer Robert Ronny said the film also explores characters dealing with personal struggles, including frustration and a loss of faith.
Director Rizal Mantovani said one of the main challenges in making the sequel was expanding the scale of the threat.
While the previous film focused on a more limited setting, the new story develops into a conflict that affects an entire city, he said.
The film will be released in three premium formats: IMAX at XXI cinemas, 4DX at CGV and Magnify 8 at Cinepolis.
Executive producer Andi Boediman said the use of several premium formats was part of an effort to give Indonesian films a broader cinematic experience.
The cast also includes Venly Arauna, Ferry Salim, Feby Febiola, Lydia Kandou, Sisca Saras, Keysha Angelica, Kiki Narendra and Faiz Vishal.
The screenplay was written by Robert Ronny and Andri Cahyadi, with Robert Ronny and Prima Taufik serving as producers.
