MBUA, Highland Papua, STUPA NEWS — An Indonesian military commander overseeing operations in Papua ordered the aerial evacuation of Sinta Bilolo from Mbua to Wamena on Thursday after road access between the two areas was disrupted.
Sinta, the wife of the late Aris Sanda, was evacuated along with two companions, Haryati and Murni, amid difficulties using the road route connecting Mbua and Wamena.
The three were flown from Mbua to Kenyam by Bell and Fennec helicopters. They then continued their journey to Wamena aboard a Caravan aircraft, according to the TNI Habema Operations Command.
The evacuation was ordered by Brigadier General Riyanto, commander of the TNI Habema Operations Command, who said the decision was based on humanitarian and safety considerations.
“Sinta is mourning and needs a safe journey. When road access is not possible, I ordered the units to provide aerial evacuation assistance so that she and her companions could reach Wamena safely,” Riyanto said in a statement issued by the command.
He said safety and humanitarian considerations were the priority in providing the assistance.
The operation highlights the reliance on air transport in parts of Highland Papua, where difficult terrain and limited road connections can complicate travel between districts.
The TNI Habema Operations Command said the evacuation was completed safely, with Sinta and her two companions continuing their journey from Kenyam to Wamena. (Gusti)
