NEW DELHI, STUPA NEWS — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is attending the BRICS summit in New Delhi on Sept. 12-13, marking Indonesia's first participation in the leaders' meeting since becoming a full member of the grouping of emerging economies.

Prabowo arrived in New Delhi late on Friday, Sept. 11, and was received at Air Force Station Palam by India's Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey and other Indian and Indonesian officials, according to Indonesia's Presidential Secretariat.

He was given a ceremonial welcome that included a guard of honour and traditional Indian cultural performances.

Leaders at the 18th BRICS summit are expected to discuss cooperation among developing economies, including food and energy security, development financing and trade.

Indonesia joined BRICS as a full member in 2025, expanding the group's membership and giving Southeast Asia's largest economy a larger role in a forum that seeks to increase cooperation among developing countries.

Jakarta has said it supports a more balanced and inclusive global economic order and wants developing countries to have a greater role in international economic cooperation.

The BRICS grouping was originally formed by Brazil, Russia, India and China and later expanded to include additional emerging economies. (des)
