Manpower Ministry Focuses on Improving Worker Skills and Access to Jobs

JAKARTA, Aug 17 (STUPA NEWS) — Indonesia’s Manpower Ministry said the country’s 81st Independence Day anniversary was an opportunity to strengthen workforce skills and expand access to employment.

Manpower Minister Yassierli said the government would continue expanding access to skills development programs to better prepare people for the job market.

“The spirit of independence gives us the energy to continue building Indonesia through a workforce that is skilled, competent and competitive,” Yassierli said during Independence Day celebrations in Jakarta on Monday.

The ministry runs several programs aimed at improving workforce capabilities, including the National Vocational Training Program, National Apprenticeship Program, the Polytechnic of Employment and KarirHub, a platform providing employment information and opportunities.

The programs provide vocational training, work experience, vocational education and access to job opportunities based on labour market needs, the ministry said.

Yassierli said efforts to strengthen workforce skills should also be accompanied by measures to create a safe, productive, inclusive and fair working environment.

The ministry is continuing to strengthen occupational safety and health standards as well as industrial relations, he said.

Yassierli made the remarks during an Independence Day carnival in Jakarta attended by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

The Manpower Ministry and the Ministry for the Protection of Migrant Workers took part in the carnival using a decorated open-top vehicle. The parade began near the National Monument and ended at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle.(Janne Sinten)
