Jokowi Says Only 78% of Indonesians Recognize PSI

KUPANG, Indonesia, Aug. 1 — Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo said public recognition of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) remains incomplete, urging party members to step up efforts to introduce the party and its new elephant logo ahead of the 2029 general election.

Speaking at PSI's Regional Coordination Meeting in Kupang on Saturday, Widodo said a report he received showed that only about 78% of Indonesians recognized the party, while just 48% identified its new elephant logo.

"PSI is currently recognized by only 78% of our people, not yet 100%. And only 48% of Indonesians know that PSI's logo is an elephant," Widodo said at the Harper Hotel in Kupang.

He called on PSI members to engage directly with the public to improve awareness of the party and its new identity.

Widodo also outlined the party's organizational progress nationwide, saying regional leadership boards (DPW) had been established in all provinces, while district-level boards (DPD) had reached 97% completion. The remaining gaps, he said, were mainly due to internal issues in several regions.

At the sub-district level, around 84% of branch committees (DPC) have been formed. However, Widodo said the party's biggest challenge is expanding its organizational structure to villages, where only about 28% of the targeted network has been established.

He expressed confidence that village-level structures could be completed before the end of the year, followed by the establishment of teams at individual polling stations (TPS), which he described as essential to building a strong political machine for the 2029 election.

The meeting was also attended by PSI Chairman Kaesang Pangarep and representatives of several pro-Jokowi civic organizations, including Gerakan Berani Nusantara (GBRAN), whose leaders accompanied Widodo during his visit to East Nusa Tenggara.
