Jakarta Timur Mayor Urges Residents to Guard Against Fires Amid Hot Weather

JAKARTA, Aug. 15, 2026 — Jakarta Timur Mayor Munjirin urged residents to step up fire prevention and maintain environmental cleanliness as hot weather raises the risk of fires in the densely populated area.

Munjirin made the remarks while attending a commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad at Musala Assaadah in Cililitan, East Jakarta, on Saturday. He was accompanied by Kramat Jati subdistrict head Kamal Alatas.

Munjirin called on residents to remain alert to potential fire hazards, maintain their surroundings and ensure that basic firefighting equipment such as portable fire extinguishers, or APAR, is available in homes.

He also encouraged residents to sort household waste at its source as part of efforts to improve environmental cleanliness and reduce waste-related problems.

“Through shared concern and collaboration, we can keep the environment safe, comfortable and clean while supporting the Jakarta provincial government’s programmes,” Munjirin said.

The Maulid event, organised by the Assaadah Islamic Study Group, was held ahead of the Islamic commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad's birth.

Munjirin said the event should not be limited to a religious ceremony, but should also encourage stronger community ties and the application of the Prophet's teachings in daily life.

He said cooperation between local government and residents was important in maintaining safe, clean and sustainable neighbourhoods.

The mayor's remarks came as Jakarta authorities continue to encourage residents to take preventive measures against fires and improve waste management at the community level. (Gusti Haes)
