Jakarta police deploy 114 officers in overnight security operation

JAKARTA, Aug 10 (STUPA NEWS) - Police in Indonesia's capital deployed 114 officers in an overnight security operation on Monday, checking vehicles and patrolling several areas of central Jakarta to prevent potential security disturbances, police said.
The operation, conducted from 1 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. local time, involved officers from the Central Jakarta Metro Police and its precincts, police said.
Officers carried out mobile patrols and stationary checks along several roads, including Samanhudi, KH Hasyim Ashari, Jembatan Tinggi, Prof Moh Yamin, Wahidin Raya, Apron Raya, the Senen Station area, Rawasari Selatan and Letjen Suprapto.
Police said they found no narcotics, illegal drugs, firearms or bladed weapons during the operation. No suspects were detained for further questioning.
Four motorcycles without valid vehicle documents were seized for inspection, police said. They were two Honda Supra motorcycles, a Yamaha Mio Soul and a Honda Vario.
Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner Reynold E.P. Hutagalung said the operation was intended as a preventive measure, particularly during hours considered vulnerable to security disturbances.
"We will continue to increase patrols and checks in a measured manner," Reynold said, adding that residents should report suspicious activities to police.
Police said the operation ended without major incidents and that similar patrols and checks would be conducted periodically. (Gusti Haes)
