Indonesian Muslim Youth Group Reports Alleged Religious Insult at Jakarta Music Festival

JAKARTA, Aug 14, 2026 — Indonesia's Badan Komunikasi Pemuda Remaja Masjid Indonesia (BKPRMI), a Muslim youth organisation, has reported an alleged religious insult linked to an alcohol promotion at a music festival in North Jakarta to the national police's criminal investigation unit.

BKPRMI said on Thursday it had submitted a public complaint to the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim), along with video footage circulating on social media that allegedly showed a challenge involving the recitation or memorisation of Quranic verses in connection with the distribution of alcoholic drinks.

The activity was reported to have taken place at The Sounds Project Vol. 9 music festival in Ancol, North Jakarta.

BKPRMI called on police to question all parties allegedly involved, including the Newport tenant, the company identified by the organisation as its parent company OT Group, the event host, organisers and visitors who took part in the challenge.

"We want everyone involved ... to be summoned by investigators," Fahira Idris, an adviser to BKPRMI's Jakarta chapter, said.

BKPRMI said its complaint was registered under number 094.B/DPPBKPRMI/VIII/2026 and that it had provided video evidence to support the report.

The organisation said it would monitor the investigation but would leave it to law enforcement authorities to determine whether the incident constituted a criminal offence under Indonesian law. (Gusti Haes)
