Indonesia Labour Ministry to Assist 20 Companies in Productivity Drive

JAKARTA, Aug. 23, 2026 — Indonesia's Labour Ministry will assist 20 companies in the manufacturing, healthcare and hospitality sectors to improve productivity through changes to work systems and processes between September and November, the ministry said on Sunday.

The programme is part of the government's efforts to improve corporate productivity and strengthen economic competitiveness and the quality of Indonesia's workforce, the ministry said in a statement.

At least 25 trained productivity specialists, 20 instructors and 20 participants in the national apprenticeship programme will be involved in the initiative.

Labour Minister Yassierli said improving worker skills alone was not enough to raise productivity, and needed to be accompanied by improvements in management and work processes.

"Worker competence must be connected to corporate productivity. When skills improve, work processes become better, technology is used optimally and a culture of continuous improvement grows, the competitiveness of companies and the national economy will also increase," Yassierli said.

The programme will use a company-based productivity improvement approach, beginning with baseline measurements and productivity assessments before moving to root-cause analysis, improvement planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

The interventions will be tailored to the conditions of each company and may include improving work-process efficiency and service quality, reducing waste, strengthening workplace management, optimising human resources, digitalising processes and improving production and service quality.

Yassierli said the involvement of national apprenticeship participants was intended to provide practical experience in workplace productivity improvement.

The apprentices will work directly with companies, instructors and productivity specialists as part of their training.

"Apprentices need to understand from the beginning that working is not merely about completing tasks. They also need to learn how work can be done better, more efficiently, with higher quality and greater added value," Yassierli said.

The minister said productivity was becoming increasingly important as technology changes, labour markets evolve and Indonesia works toward its 2045 development goals.

The ministry expects the pilot programme to produce a systematic and measurable model for improving corporate productivity that can eventually be applied more broadly, it said. (Janne Sinten)
