Indonesia Expands Job Programs for People with Disabilities

STUPA NEWS ■ JAKARTA — Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower is stepping up efforts to improve employment opportunities for people with disabilities by expanding skills training programs and strengthening partnerships with businesses, Manpower Minister Yassierli said on Wednesday (6/8).

Speaking during a visit to the Employment Opportunity Expansion Center (BPKK) in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, Yassierli reviewed workforce empowerment programs, including vocational training for 40 people with disabilities who are being prepared for jobs in the light manufacturing sector.

The minister said improving workforce skills is essential to ensure people with disabilities can compete in the labor market and meet industry demands.

"Our main priority is to provide people with disabilities with training and job preparation that match labor market needs," Yassierli said.

To expand employment opportunities, BPKK Kendari will also organize a strategic event in Makassar, bringing together around 50 companies that have committed to hiring workers with disabilities. The ministry expects the initiative to strengthen collaboration between the government and the private sector in creating a more inclusive labor market.

Yassierli said BPKK Kendari plays a strategic role due to its extensive regional coverage. Beyond serving as a vocational training center, the facility is expected to foster cooperation with local stakeholders to broaden employment opportunities across its service area.

He also urged all Vocational Training and Productivity Centers (BPVP) and Employment Opportunity Expansion Centers (BPKK) under the Ministry of Manpower to take a more proactive role in delivering programs that generate tangible benefits for communities, particularly groups that face greater barriers to employment.(Gusti Haes)
