WONOSOBO, Central Java — The Aji Jaya Cup 1 volleyball tournament brought together teams from Central Java and Yogyakarta, featuring several players with experience at Indonesia's national level.
The tournament was held from Aug. 7 to 9 at Cindai Mas Camping Ground in Wadaslintang district, Wonosobo regency, drawing thousands of spectators to watch the competition.
Wonosobo Regent Afif Nurhidayat praised the event, saying its scale, facilities and participation by high-profile players made it different from other volleyball tournaments held in the regency.
“We are proud of the event. We consider it spectacular because it is something new in Wonosobo, with impressive facilities and national-level athletes,” Afif said at the tournament's opening.
Among the players taking part were Rivan Nurmulki, Mahfud Nurcahyadi, Rendi Tamamilang, Dimas Saputra, Sandi Akbar and Didin Bae, all of whom have played in Indonesia's national volleyball competitions.
Afif said tournaments of this scale could help strengthen the development of volleyball in Wonosobo and encourage young athletes to pursue the sport.
“We are very proud and optimistic that this can motivate volleyball athletes in Wonosobo,” he said.
The tournament was organized by Pujiono, owner of the Aji Jaya volleyball team and president director of PT Aji Jaya Plantation.
In addition to competitive matches, organizers held entertainment programs as part of the event.
Pujiono said the tournament was intended to encourage young people, particularly in Wadaslintang and Wonosobo, to develop their potential in volleyball.
The participation of experienced players was also expected to give local athletes an opportunity to learn from higher-level competition and motivate them to improve their skills and performance. (Suhirman)
