13,859 Personnel Deployed to Secure Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day Events in Jakarta

JAKARTA, Aug 17 (Stupa News) — A total of 13,859 personnel have been deployed to secure a series of events marking Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day in Jakarta, including flag-raising and lowering ceremonies at the State Palace, a Red-and-White flag parade, public celebrations and a carnival.

Personnel from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, along with other security forces and government agencies, took part in a security readiness briefing led by Jakarta Deputy Police Chief Brig. Gen. Dekananto Eko Purwono at the Traffic Directorate’s Presisi Field at around 3 a.m. local time on Monday.

Central Jakarta Police Chief Commissioner Reynold E.P. Hutagalung said security measures would focus on prevention and early detection to anticipate potential disruptions during the celebrations.

“A total of 13,859 personnel took part in the security readiness briefing. Together with other units and relevant agencies, we are ready to secure the entire series of events marking Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day,” Reynold said.

He said intelligence operations would be used to identify potential threats before they developed into security incidents, including possible terrorist threats. Law enforcement measures would be taken if necessary, he added.

Security personnel will be deployed at major public gathering points and along routes used for the celebrations, while police have urged the public to follow officers’ instructions and report any suspicious activity.

The Independence Day celebrations on Aug. 17 are among the largest public events in Jakarta, with several activities centered around the State Palace and other locations across the capital.(Janne Sinten)
